A Successful 50th Ceremony Commemoration

Gala_blogThe 50th Anniversary Celebration on Apr 5 was an extraordinary success! Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the schoolhouse in this milestone year. The funds raised at this issue stand for a marvelous and inspiring delivery to Gateway. They help put the school in a potent position to embark on the years and decades ahead, ensuring that Gateway'due south unique educational program will exist available for future generations of bright children with learning differences.

Middle School Musical "Charlie Brown"

charlie_brownOn March 17, a cast of talented Middle School students performed You're a Expert Man, Charlie Brown for an audition of friends and family unit. The students have worked diligently since September to stage this product, which required acting, dancing, and singing. The characters featured were Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Schroeder, Sally, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Frieda, Pig Pen, and of course, Snoopy.

Cheers to all the parents, faculty, staff, and students who contributed to the success of this yr's musical!

Basketball Team Ends Successful Season

boys_basketballOn March 7, the Middle School held a pep rally to celebrate the successful boys' basketball season. The varsity squad made it to the semifinals of the Middle School Athletic League play-offs and finished with a final record of 10 wins, five losses. The junior varsity squad had a concluding record of ix wins, 2 losses, going undefeated for the majority of the season.

During the pep rally, each thespian was recognized for his contribution to the team, and students bid farewell to the 8th grade players. The basketball squad then candy down the school hallways where they were congratulated by Lower School students. Here's to another successful flavor next year!

Lower School Arts Festival

LS_arts_festivalOn Feb iv, students in Classes 617, 619, 621, and 636 showcased their artistic work to an audience of parents. Students dressed in costume and performed various songs and skits, and many examples of their visual art projects from recent months (tepees, globes, owls, masks, and even a mummy) were on display.

On Feb 5, students in Classes 609, 611, and 615 volition put on a similar show.

PA Bowling Political party Recap

bowling_party2The almanac Parents Association bowling party on Sunday, Jan 31 was a big success, with over 140 people (parents, students, siblings) bowling together and having a great time. Every lane at the Frames Bowling Lounge in Midtown Manhattan was taken by Gateway families! This community-building event was a terrific fashion to kick off the new semester.

A Stiff Offset to the Basketball game Season

Congratulations to the Gateway boys' basketball game team for a stiff start to the Winter 2016 flavour! The Inferior Varsity team (5th and 6th grades) has an undefeated record of 5 wins, 0 losses so far, with three of the victories happening this past calendar week confronting Solomon Schechter, Mandell, and Ideal Schools.

The Varsity team (7th and 8th grades) has a record of 4 wins, 1 loss so far, with a recent victory this past week against Ideal School.

Jubilant the Holidays

LS_partiesThe Lower School recently celebrated the December holidays with grade parties. Parents joined their children in classrooms and the library for holiday-themed activities and festive snacks.

The Middle School held a holiday party on Dec 16—cheers to the Parents Association for the pizza and cupcakes!

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

gpsf_day_2015Last week, Gateway welcomed our students' grandparents and special friends (GPSF) into the schoolhouse! The Lower School GPSF Twenty-four hours featured a musical performance in Grandstand, classroom visits, art projects, and a physical action in the Motion Room. The Eye Schoolhouse version included a reception in Grandstand, visits to the Scientific discipline labs, and meetings with the students' Writing groups.

On both days, GPSFs accompanied their students to the almanac Volume Fair, the proceeds of which benefited the Parents Association. Visitors browsed a variety of age-appropriate books—including science, history, biography, reference, and more—which they purchased as early holiday presents or donated to their pupil's classroom.

Central Atrium Named after Former Teacher

McKenzie_Atrium_webLast week, Gateway commemorated one of its former teachers, Evelyn McKenzie, by officially naming the central atrium of the school "The Evelyn McKenzie Atrium." This airy, light-filled space spans the 5th and sixth floors and serves every bit a focal bespeak for school activities and social gatherings.

7th Class Meets Cast of "Hamilton"

On October 28, the entire seventh grade took a field trip to run into Hamilton: The Musical on Broadway! Positive Parenting Talk Epitomize

The start Positive Parenting Talk of the school year took identify on October 16, 2015 and was well-attended. In collaboration with the Gateway psychology squad, we welcomed back two speakers from the Child Mind Found:

  • The Lower School presentation, led by Dr. Mandi Silverman, focused on creating and maintaining structure at abode, including limit- and boundary-setting, the importance of consistency, and providing children with clear expectations. Dr. Silverman too addressed how to create effective behavioral principles and how to maintain them when siblings are involved.
  • The Middle School presentation, led by Dr. Kristen Carothers, addressed the impact of social media and gaming on young adolescents, also as ways to fix limits and keep kids rubber.
